Case Study: Midwest Sporting Goods Scales Online Stores with Chipply

Overview

For nearly 50 years, Midwest Sporting Goods has provided teams across Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Southern Kansas with apparel, equipment, and sporting goods. As the company’s online business expanded, managing web stores across multiple sales reps became increasingly difficult.

After adopting Chipply, Midwest Sporting Goods streamlined its entire online store operation — enabling faster store launches, greater consistency, and continued business growth.

“We needed a system where everything could flow from start to finish a lot more seamlessly than it had been,” said Kami Stroope, Director of Online Sales at Midwest Sporting Goods.

The Challenge

Before Chipply, Midwest Sporting Goods used another online store platform, and individual sales reps handled stores in different ways. The lack of consistency made it difficult to manage growing demand efficiently.

“All of our reps were doing different things all across the board,” Stroope said. “With the online store platform we were using, it just wasn’t feasible for me to keep up with all of the stores.”

The company needed:

The Solution

Midwest Sporting Goods transitioned fully to Chipply approximately three years ago and quickly rebuilt its online store process through the platform’s automation and dealer-focused tools.

“It made it such a seamless transition and really fit so well into what we were already doing in our business,” Stroope said. “We didn’t have to mold what we were doing to work for the platform.”

Several features became central to the company’s workflow, including:

  • Live inventory feeds
  • Store templates
  • Integrated purchasing
  • Store preview links

For Stroope, inventory feeds were especially impactful.

“Having that available and ready to go, it just makes building stores so much easier,” she said. “When I don’t have to go and search for it, but it’s already there, that’s a game changer.”

The platform also improved how Midwest Sporting Goods supports its sales team in the field.

“The use of the preview links for them to show potential coaches, potential athletic directors to pitch ideas to has been great,” Stroope said.

Beyond the technology itself, customer support became another major differentiator.

“The customer service is truly what sets Chipply apart,” Stroope said. “I can email in or call in and speak to a real person, and everyone’s willing to help. I know that any problem that I have, there's going to be someone there who will support me and see the problem through to the end.”

Results

Since implementing Chipply, Midwest Sporting Goods has significantly increased the number of online stores it can launch and manage.

“We’ve been able to build more online stores because I’m able to build them more efficiently, quicker. The whole process from start to finish is more efficient,” Stroope said.

Chipply’s automation and integrated workflows have allowed the company to scale without adding operational complexity.

“I couldn’t do my job without Chipply,” Stroope said. “The amount of stores that I build in a year, there’s no way I could do it without Chipply. I’m able to do more with the same amount of time that I have.”

When asked what she would tell other team dealers considering Chipply, Stroope’s answer was immediate:

“When you look at the options that are out there in our industry, it’s just leaps and bounds above anything else that is available to you. If it’s going to make you do your job better, easier, faster and just take all the headaches away, then why would you not switch to Chipply?”
